How many mesh nodes do I need?
The smallest number that gives healthy coverage is usually better than filling the home with unnecessary radios.
Start with one router in the best realistic location
Do not calculate node count from the current poor router position if that position can easily change. First model the best practical location for the main unit.
Add one node to solve one defined weak area
If a long home has one weak end, add one node where it maintains good backhaul and re-check. If that solves the target rooms, a third node may add complexity without meaningful benefit.
Multi-storey homes need vertical planning
A node on each floor is not an automatic rule. Open stairwells and lightweight floors may allow good vertical coverage; reinforced slabs may require an AP on each side. Model the floor loss and verify in the real home.
Use Ethernet where the wireless path is inherently bad
If the only wireless route to the target zone crosses several dense walls, wired backhaul can be more valuable than adding another relay hop. The planner lets you switch between wired and wireless backhaul to show why.
